Waterwheel

Fountain Design Ltd designed, built and site tested a small waterwheel back in 2007. The project came about because we needed an application for a small SubSea generator we had built in house. The generator was a stainless steel canned backiron wound permanent magnet machine. A second smaller run of river device followed in 2008.

A combination of other projects and a difficult Environment Agency has meant this technology remains on the shelf.

A simple friction drive test rig allowed us to confirm our design predictions for the generator.

Site Testing

We were able to place the wheel in a local stream were we it was used to provide outdoor lighting to a nearby house.
